Basic Description

  This web site is to be an example of an 'Informational' web site. Its goal or purpose is to present the results of research or share factual information about a particular subject.  The website expects nothing from the user, and assumes the role of 'authority or expert' concerning the topic being covered.   Some characteristics or samples of materials contained on informational web sites include...
     • Organized factual information
     • Statistics or data in some form
     • Charts and/or graphs
     • Vocabulary and/or Definitions
     • Images whose goal is to describe or identify
     •
Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) on the topic
     •
Procedure lists (How to do this information)

  Informational web sites can be very large and generally it is very helpful to have a Goal statement which will guide or focus the information being assembled for publication.   (May 03)

 

Part I - Choose a Subject / Topic
     A. Choose from the following suggestions...
          a) National Holiday
          b) a "significant" event in History
          c) Emerging technology or Recent scientific/medical advancement
          d) Significant places or structures of the world
          e) A similar subject that you are interested in (Must be approved!)
          f) Examples of some Unacceptable topics for this assignment include,
               musical groups, actors, TV shows, movies, cartoon or comic book
               characters, electronic games, cars, sports teams or players,
               (unless it can be demonstrated that chosen topic is of historical
               significance)

     B. Write a goal statement that clarifies what you wish to accomplish with
         the publishing of this site. (This will be included on the Home page of
         your informational web site)

     C. Using your Goal statement as a guide, select your four sub-topics
     D. Type & Submit above information to instructor for approval.

 

Part II - Create your Web Site

Specific Requirements
   A. Folder Organization

            1. Create and organize all folders
                  a)  Folder (Name of topic or Info)
                  b)  Minimum SubFolders (may add others as desired)
                      1) images
                      2) navimages
                      3) originaldocs
                      4) pdfdocs
                      5) any other folder(s) you fell are necessary for organization

            2. Save ALL materials in appropriate folders

   B. Individual Page Requirements

            1. Page titled appropriately within the HTML code
            2. Visible Page Title / Heading
            3. Your Name / Modification Date
                 a) Small unobtrusive

            4. Navigation Controls
                 a) No "Dead" pages without links
                 b) Location indicator / Where are you within the site

   C. Web Site Requirements

            1. Home Page
            2. Four Topic pages
                 a) Each page covers a separate topic
            3. A How To Power Point Presentation
                 a) Related to subject/topic area
                 b) May be linked from any of your topic pages
            4. Bibliography Page
                 a) Listing of all sources used for content
                 b) Links to all web sources used for content / images
            5. Reflection Page: Write a one page reflection of this assignment,
                 be sure to cover the following...
                 a) What did you learn about the topic of your web site?
                 b) Please explain what was the most useful thing you learned
                       about web page/site design in the completion of this task.
                 c) Do you think this assignment can be improved? If so, How?
                 d) Was there anything that you did not learn/know that would
                       have helped you complete the task easier/faster?
                 e) Anything else of value....
            6. Minimum of three (3) active links to outside (related) web sites

   D. Design Requirements

            1. Must have a recognizable Graphic Theme related to topic
                 a) Consistency of colors
                 b) Consistency of buttons / links
                 c) Consistency of Fonts / sizes
                 d) Consistency of page layout / positioning of elements

   E. Other Requirements

            1. Permission granted for all possible copyrighted materials
                 a) Turn in emails with completed project
                 b) Sources cited for all other info used
            2. Topic pages cover viable realistic topics
                 a) Enough content on web page to justify use of a full page
            3. Clip Art
                  a) Appropriate for page content & Design
                  b) Original saved in "originals" folder

Part III - Evaluation / Reflection

            1. Present completed web site to class...
                 a) Use of projection device
                 b) Summarize key elements of each page while demonstrating
                       navigation controls.

            2. Participate in peer evaluation
                      (complete & submit Excel worksheet)
