   Research Report

   Written Report

  • Investigate, then write a two-three page report on the topic of typography. Include information on the following...
    1) Cover Page w/ Name, Report Title & Logo (instructions below...)
    2) Body of document (min 2 full pgs) addressing the following...

         - Definition of the term
         - Brief History of movable type
         - Major classifications of type
         - Definitions / Basic characteristics of letter forms
         - Measurement system
    3) Reflection page
         Conclude report with a your thoughts on the importance of type as a visual (graphic) element on a designed page AND how the information you have researched would/should affect anyone involved in graphic design and/or visual communications.

    4) Bibliography page
           List all sources used. Names of web sites must be listed AND Url's (addresses) must be dragged/dropped into word document.

    5) Print out rubric. AFTER self evaluation based on rubric, attach & submit for grading.

   Logo Design

  • Using Photoshop, create a graphic using type (letters) that could be used as a symbol or logo for "The Anatomy of Type". Refer to the
    graphic manipulations discussed earlier in desktop graphics. Include this logo on the cover page of your research report. Use the following specifications...
         - Document size = 4" x 4"
         - Use of an appropriate background color or design
         - Design elements of graphic recognizable as portions of type
         - Incorporate the text "The Anatomy of Type" as an integral
             part of of the design.
         - Use of color, supplementary text and/or simple graphics
         - Text manipulation examples by C. Faber '01
         - Other student examples...
